PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME
Main topic of the conference: major trends at the world fertilizer market and their influence on the CIS market
18 November 2010, Thursday – 1st working day
Topic of the day – International Markets and Sea-Borne Trade
Fertilizer market comes out crisis. High fertilizer demand in Asia and South America regions contributes to this recovery. Fertilizer suppliers participate in intensive competition to win perspective markets in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Brazil. Possibility to reduce production cost price and transportation expenses is one of the most important indicators of competitiveness for market players. Appearance of new large production facilities located in the regions with growing consumption – Middle East and Trinidad and Tobago – makes competition even sharper and weakens positions of the CIS fertilizer exporters. There exists high probability that share of Russian and Ukrainian fertilizers in international trade will decrease and the CIS suppliers will make more active attempts to increase sales at the domestic market.

19 November 2010, Friday – 2d working day
Topic of the day – Domestic CIS Markets
Russian fertilizer market is significantly regulated by state. Price situation at the Russian market is stable – the upper limit of fertilizer prices for agricultural producers is fixed with government resolution. External sales markets are much more interesting for Russian fertilizer producers, including Ukrainian sales market. Having access to cheaper raw materials, Russian producers actively intensify fertilizer supplies to the Ukrainian market and take part in severe competition with Ukrainian enterprises. In certain segments the share of Russian fertilizers significantly exceeds Ukrainian one – in NPK segment it reached 95%. Attempts of Ukrainian chemists to initiate application of protective measures were unsuccessful up to present time. The state of Ukrainian enterprises remains close to critical.
Key questions:
- Does the growth potential exist for Russian and Ukrainian fertilizer market?
- Is it possible to count on state stimulation of solvent demand from the side of agri-business players?
- Will expansion of Russian fertilizer suppliers continue to the Ukrainian market?
- Will Ukrainian producers hold out against severe competitive struggle?
Session 4: Agricultural production in the CIS countries and fertilizer consumption
- Expansion perspectives for agricultural production in Russia.
- Agriculture in Ukraine: state policy, plans and strategies of the industry leaders.
- Development of agricultural chemicalization: opportunities and perspectives.
